LFC-W Missio Dei

Missio Dei (Mission of God) Projects

Jesus gives us the power and command to “go” make disciples and care for those in need. Therefore, Lake Forest Church joins the Missio Dei (mission of God) by engaging in the lives of vulnerable people; the homeless and homebound, orphans and widows and the unreached and overlooked. Our goal is to share God’s love with our actions and words – here’s some areas of local ministry where you can partner with us:

LFC WestLake Shares

WestLake Shares collects, organizes, and delivers boxes of food to individuals and organizations in need. We deliver (primarily in the Denver area, but also travel as fas as The Moore Place in Charlotte) an average of 70-80 boxes of food each week! This is a growing ministry and we are looking for volunteers to help serve with us. Here’s how you can help:

Volunteers will serve at least once a month.

If you’re able to serve on Thursdays, you can:
Pick up marked out groceries from Trader Joes on Rea Road in Charlotte (8:30am-10:30am); and/or
Unpack groceries at The Kidville Corner Store: 6328 Kidville Rd., Denver (10:30am-12:00pm); and/or
Deliver groceries and engage with people on your route (11:00am-12:30pm)

If you’re able to serve on Fridays, you can:
Unpack groceries at The Corner Store: 6328 Kidville Rd., Denver (10:30am-12:00pm); and/or
Deliver groceries and engage with people on your route (11:00am-12:30pm)

Click here to sign up for any of these positions!

If you don’t have time to serve but still want to help, we welcome donations of nutritionally significant groceries (some examples include peanut butter with no sugar added, pure honey, whole oats, rice and beans in cans or dried, whole grain granola, energy/granola bars with no added sugars, dried fruits, turkey jerky, nuts, seeds) purchased by you or collected from your neighbors/colleagues.

Contact Cindy Swanson via phone (704) 619-8356 or email cdswanson@bellsouth.net to volunteer or with questions.

Making Cards for WestLake Shares (a service opportunity for little ones!)

Grab some art supplies and ask your kids to make a prayer card for our WestLake Shares food boxes. Include messages like “We Are Praying for You” or an encouraging Bible verse. This is a great opportunity to pray with your child as you pray over the card and for the family that will receive it. We’d like every box of food delivered to contain a card! Email Beverly Ailiff for details on where to drop off your notes and artwork!

Kid’s Hope USA

Kid’s Hope USA is a national organization that LFC partners with to build life-changing relationships one at a time: One child. One hour. One church. One school. Through this program we’ve partnered with St. James Elementary School to provide mentors and prayer parters to at-risk students. God has been moving in this ministry and allowed us to build some great partnerships with the children and faculty at St. James. Here’s how you can get involved:

Mentors meet for an hour (ish) each week with students during school hours. Currently, we are only having virtual meetups (beginning in October), however we hope to return to our usual rhythms of meeting in person during January 2021.

Prayer partners provide support, encouragement and accountability for mentor/mentee teams.

Kids Hope’s start date is delayed this year due to Covid-19 but will resume soon.
